Academic Exchange for Graduate Students in ITCS

 

Instruction related to Application for Academic Exchange and Visiting for ITCS Graduate Students

 

1.      Purpose

Our institute implements this program in order to develop the students’ understanding of the latest research discoveries as well as to give them international research experience. It aims at supporting their visit to top universities and having academic exchange. Qualification

1)      Being an ITCS graduate student

2)      Earn enough credits for master of doctor degree according to the regulations of Tsinghua University

3)      Finish two courses of graduate study in ITCS

4)      Pass the qualification exam of ITCS for going abroad.

2.      Time and Frequency of Visit

1)      Time of Visit

For Direct-PhD students, the time is from the 2nd semester of the second year to the 1st semester of the fourth year. The graduated semester is not for visit.

For PhD students and MSc Students, the time is from the 2nd semester of the second year to the 1st semester of the third year. The graduated semester is notfor visit.

       Visit duration: above 3 months but not more than a semester

2)      Frequency of Visit

For Direct-PhD students: ITCS supports these students to perform two visits during their candidature. The interval between their two visits should be more than one semester.

For PhD students and MSc Students, ITCS supports these students to perform one visit during their candidature.

Note: ITCS will not support the students who are going to visit during either winter or summer vacation. Students should contact institutes abroad on their own.

3.      Qualified Examination

ITCS would hold qualification examination for graduate students in May and October.

1)      Research orientation

2)      Academic Reading: students should read 3-5 academic paper

3)      Work out a proposal in English. This should include a research statement indicating the surveyed area, the research purpose as well as a plan of investigation.

4)      Fill in the “Application Form of Qualified Examination for ITCS Graduate Students”, submit this form along with item 2) and 3) as well as an academic transcript.

5)      Oral report and oral defense in English

4.      Report on Research Work

1)      Monthly report

During the visit, the student must send monthly report on his/her research work to itcsadm@tsinghua.edu.cn

2)      Summary

a.     The student must submit a report (3000-5000 words) on his/her research work when returning for the 1st time visit within one month.

b.     Students must submit the documents collected during their visit. They will be shared with teachers and fellow ITCS students.

c.      ITCS will have comprehensive evaluation for the graduate student according to his/her research plan and study abroad.

5.      Appendix

ITCS reserves the rights to explain the final interpretation of this instruction.
